Component Characteristics Substitution Guide: Inductors

» Inductance Value (Micro-Henries; uH or Nano-Henries; nH):

Substitution Rule: In most cases you cannot change to different inductance value

 » Inductance Tolerance (% or ±nH):
Substitution Rule: A component with a tighter (better) tolerance can replace a looser tolerance component
i.e... ±2%(G) tolerance part can replace ±5%(J) or ±10% (K) tolerance part
i.e.... ±5%(J) tolerance part can replace ± 10%(K) or ±20% (M) tolerance part
i.e.… ±10%(K) tolerance part can replace ±20%(M)

 » Quality Factor (Q)
Substitution Rule: A component with a higher Q (better) can typically replace a component with lower Q.
(Comparison of "Q" should be under application conditions; Frequency, Bias, Temperature)
» "SRF" - Self Resonant Frequency (KHz, Mhz or GHz)
Substitution Rule: A component with a higher SRF (better) can typically replace a component with lower SRF.
(Comparison of "SRF" should be under application conditions; Frequency, Bias, Temperature)
» "DCR" - DC Resistance (ohm)
Substitution Rule: A component with a lower DCR (better) can typically replace a component with higher DCR.
(Comparison of "DCR" should be under application conditions; Bias, Temperature)
»"DCI" - DC Current or "Isat" I Saturation (mA or Amp)
Substitution Rule: A component with a higher DCI (better) can typically replace a component with lower DCI.
(Comparison of "DCI" should be under application conditions; Bias, Temperature)
